WARWICKSHIRE COUNTY COUNCIL
EXECUTIVE REPORT – June 2021
The County Council Election was a tremendous result for the Conservatives. We went into the election with a majority of 12 and returned with a majority of 27. The breakdown is :
Conservatives : 42 ; Labour : 6 ; Lib Dems : 5 ; Greens : 3 ; Independents : 1.
North Warwickshire we won all 7 divisions; Bedworth all 4 divisions; Nuneaton we won 8 and Labour retained 1; Rugby there was no change with 7 Conservatives; Labour 2; LibDems 1; Warwick (inc Kworth) was disappointing Conservatives 5; Labour 3; Greens 3; Lib Dems 2; Independents 1. We lost seats in Warwick North to Labour and in Kenilworth Park Hill to Greens. Labour Lost one in Leamington Wills but Gained off us in Warwick North and gained one off the LibDems.. Their Loss was the Group Leader. Lib Dems lost in Leamington to labour. In Stratford we gained 2 divisions, Studley and Stratford North giving us 11 oof the 13 Divisions in the Stratford District. This was a fantastic result and down to close and hard work by candidates and supports for which I am very grateful.
As we move into the new administration, one of our key policies is about to be delivered. We pledge to launch the Warwickshire Recovery Investment Fund (WRIF) which goes to Cabinet this week and one to Council on 1st July. This will create a £140m fund to help businesses to grow and to develop over the next 5 years. It is anticipated to sustain hundreds of jobs and over the five year period we will hope to create a further thousand plus. It is anticipated that the support of this fund will draw down a similar amount from the private sector. It has been supported by the LEP and the Chamber of Commerce plus many more. We believe that it is imperative that we give our business sector the best chance possible to have an advantage.
WCC is imminently expecting an Ofsted SEND inspection. Later followed by a full Ofsted Childrens Services Inspection.
The Chief Fire Offices, Kieran Amos, is retiring this month. I am pleased to say that the Deputy Chief FO, Ben Brooks has been appointed and will take up the post on Kieran’s retirement. We will be very sad to lose Kieran who has been a great leader and strengthened our partnerships. However, Ben will I am sure be very capable of building on his legacy.
