Warwickshire County Councillor Tim Sinclair pushed hard at the highest levels within the County Council to get the project restarted and he's fighting for the improvements locals want.
The aim of the Birmingham Road project is to ease traffic flow and improve facilities for walking and cycling. Phase 2, which is from the A46 roundabout to The Avenue, has two parts.
The first part - enabling works - were finished last year and included the utilities companies working beneath the road. The second part - the surface works - has changed to reflect updated data modelling and resident feedback. These surface works start in September.
Phase 2 will include a new footpath between Worths Way and Squirrels Street as well as a new unattended crossing and a new bus shelter. There will also be an off-road, shared-use cycleway and footpath.
The designs for Phase 3 (the Maybird / Tescos section) are being finalised now. This is the area with the greatest amount of change to the road itself and where the main improvements for vehicles will come. Tim is very aware that the Birmingham Road project has been delayed many times over the years. He got agreement for the Phase 3 works to be done straight after Phase 2, so that this project can finally be completed. In the meantime Tim recognised that the road had deteriorated badly in places and was needing urgent attention to make it safe. He successfully lobbied for the worst potholes to be repaired straight away and earlier this year managed to get seven large sections of patching works done.
